Mr Lee Kuan Yew : He was the first Prime Minister of Singapore, governing for three decades. His emphasis on rapid economic growth, support for business entrepreneurship, limitations on internal democracy, and close relationships with China set the new nation's policies for the next half-century. He is recognized as the founding father of modern Singapore, and the only leader known to bring an entire country from third-world to first-world status in a single generation. He , is our forefather .
Previously , there were many rumors about his death , be it online or offline . I thought it was another false message of his death that was passing around but not until i woke up seeing the news on every and each television channel verifying the death of our beloved forefather , Mr Lee Kuan Yew on the 23rd of March 3:18am. It was a heartbreaking news , not just to me but i believe , everyone , even people world wide . He isn't just the great man to singaporeans but to everyone , everywhere .
I wasn't lucky enough to see the change in singapore from the past to the present , neither am i lucky enough to meet him in real life or had any interactions with him but i was lucky to be a singaporean . He is the reason why singapore could turn from a filthy country full of kampongs to a clean & green country full of high rise buildings .
As compared to the past , singapore had indeed change a lot , nowadays , whenever there's construction going on , we'll vent , we'll complain , we'll give comments like " what ? again ?! " but without those construction , we would not have the " luxuries " that we are having now , shopping malls , restaurants , hotels , KTV and so much more ! Not forgetting , playgrounds , HDBs , Condominiums etc . To people of the older generations , they must have been really happy back then when there are constructions going on , because they would get a chance to stay in a HDB flat instead of kampongs . See the contrast ?
Our generation is just so lucky ( don't you think so ? ) because we don't get a chance to stay in kampongs , eat porridge every single meal , having Bombs dropping everywhere , having to lose our kins due to war . We had computers , laptops , smart phones , the latest technologies .
What's singapore without him ? No HDB flat , still being combined with Malaysia , having wars , not safe , filthy , underdeveloping country , bombs dropping everywhere , conflicts among different races / religions / countries , Woman are not of equal status as the man and so much more . Will we still be so lucky if there isn't such a person like him ?
We are a small country , just a little red dot on the map , not spotted easily , everyone thought singapore wouldn't be independent , everyone thought we will fail , yes we did . Mr lee met up with many ups and downs , many challenges but never had he given up .
Today , I can be proud enough to go around and tell people of other world that I AM A SINGAPOREAN and most of my friends that are overseas would tell me things like " singapore's a great country , how i wish i was a singaporean " , " wow , what a safe country " , " wah so good " . They no longer look down on us , because of our hero that made this possible , Mr lee .
He also made English the common language of singapore , he made people of different races , genders , cultural , religion , skin colour and all to bond together , he made us equal . This is why singapore is safe . Why no war ? Because this great man of ours go around the world and had great friendships with them .
Why No riots ? Because he made us equal .
HE IS THE KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF SINGAPORE TODAY .
I may not have been able to blog today if there wasn't him .
I was glad to be nominated to pay homage to Our hero , our great man , Mr lee Tomorrow . I was Excited because it was my first time entering the parliament house , but i was sad as well due to the fact that i was going for his wake , he's gone . It was pretty much a mixed feeling .
To be honest , i don't usually cry at people's wake as a form of respect as i always thought crying at someone's wake will make them sad too but i was afraid , i would , tomorrow . ( will most probably blog more about my journey there tomorrow . So , do stay tune )
Many said he deserves to at least witness singapore's 50 years old but to me , at least he's happy that he could see the changes of singapore from the past till the day he left . At least , he gets to see his efforts pay off . At least , he left with no regrets .
